Computer Science Kickstart: An Innovative Bootcamp to Ignite Passion in First-Year Female-Identifying University Students
The CS Kickstart initiative addresses the challenge of underrepresentation of women and minorities in tech through a one-week intensive curriculum in computer science. This study aims to address the research question of evaluating the efficacy of the program in imparting foundational knowledge and fostering enthusiasm among participants. Leveraging a dual-track system, the program caters to both beginners and those with prior experience. Feedback from post-program surveys indicated heightened confidence and increased interest in computer science, especially among those with minimal initial exposure. The findings suggest that targeted, short-term programs in university education for first-year female-identifying students can significantly impact diversity and inclusion in computer science education.
